Neuro-Ophthalmology

A neuro-ophthalmologist is a specialised neurologist who has specific expertise in diagnosis and management of disorders of the optic nerves and brain pathways involved in processing of vision and eye movements. Examples of neuro-ophthalmological conditions include optic neuritis, optic atrophy, optic disc swelling, amaurosis fugax, idiopathic intracranial hypertension, giant cell arteritis affecting vision, ocular motility disorders and cranial nerve palsies. Patients may present with diplopia, ptosis, blurred vision, loss of vision, unusual eye movements or visual field loss. 

What is a Neurologist?

A neurologist is a specialist physician who has expertise in diagnosis and management of disorders of the brain and nervous system such as headaches, vertigo, strokes, seizures, movement disorders such as Parkinson's disease and tremors, neuromuscular disorders (genetic or acquired), peripheral nerve diseases, multiple sclerosis and autoimmune disorders of the nervous system.
